Due to the introduction of new pathways to registration and
changes to international qualification assessments effective
Monday, 27 October 2025, the Occupational Therapy
Council (OTC) is no longer accepting Stage 1 applications.
For your information, the new process for Internationally qualified occupational therapists who wish to practise in Australia, must be registered with the Occuational Therapy Board of Australia (OTBA). Registration processes are coordinated by the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (Ahpra).
To obtain registration, Internationally qualified occupational therapists are required to have their occupational therapy qualification assessed by Ahpra to advise if the qualification is accepted for general registration.
Depending on the advice you receive (in writing) after the qualifications assessment, some Internationally qualified occupational therapists may need to complete a Competence assessment during supervised practice, under limited registration. This Competence assessment is facilitated by the OTC.
If you have any queries about the new process, please call Ahpra on
1300 419 495. Please note the OTC is unable to assist you with such
queries.
For further details you can refer to the Occupational Therapy Board of
Australia’s website at the link below:
