Importantly, from 1 July 2012 in compliance with new legislation (Australian Health Practitioner Regulation National Law) all occupational therapists wanting to practise in Australia are required to be registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)

Internationally-qualified occupational therapists who do not hold a qualification accredited by the Occupational Therapy Board of Australia (OTBA) are required to undertake the assessment process with the OTC.

The assessment process consists of:

Stage 1 — Desktop audit
Stage 2 — Supervised practice audit
